Jon, I agree that it's odd that the event turn out is lower than you'd expect from a world event. Like you, I've run events with put to 100 competitors. Like you, I've run events with put to 100 competitors. The stipulation that the player be a police or fire professional is what narrows the field. Previous events have had 40-45 competitors. Those are the recent event numbers I was given and what I used to make the decision to drop straight pool from the competition. If you do the math with the tables we have and when we have them then factor in the more deliberate pace of straight pool, I think you will arrive at the same conclusion as I did. We're hoping to be in the range of 32 players and are at 17 from last look. People procrastinate so we expect the numbers to increase in the next four weeks before registration is closed. If you would like to discuss the logistics of why we chose Breakers and why we can't shut down the room for a pool event, then I would be happy to discuss by phone. 202-494-4326. Keep in mind that's a multi-purpose venue and not just a pool room.

Mike, maybe if there's no billiards event planned for the next WPFG, then we aren't such bad guys after all LOL. Maybe the public behavior on this forum has convinced future games to reconsider accommodations. I don't know this for sure, of course,...Mike, maybe if there's no billiards event planned for the next WPFG, then we aren't such bad guys after all LOL. I get emails from up above me to respond when it gets negative.

Geez man you are getting extremely defensive for no reason. I never mentioned the coordinator. Joe shmoe is a term to describe the usual joe off the street. Joe shmoe is a term to describe the usual joe off the street. And actually my comment would be defending your choice to have 8 and 9 ball rather than straight pool because I am saying that the usual joe doesnt know what straight pool is, therefor maybe attracting more signups. As far as 2017 goes, I would say its the usual reason; money. Not enough people signing up means not enough money to reserve pool halls. I dont think any comments in this forum have been rude or "ill-behaved" in any way.

Christopher, it looks like I misunderstand your "Joe Shmoe" comment. It's not so much that comments have been "rude" or "ill-behaved" as you stated. It's not so much that comments have been "rude" or "ill-behaved" as you stated. The board should be about helping WPFG to sign up a growing number of competitors. If a player has decided not to go, then I don't get why they would linger on the board and stand in the way of others signing up. That seems selfish and bratty. The perhaps unintended impact of this (from a behavioral standpoint) is that people see lots of talk about not going and less about going. Guess what they're inclined to do?

STRAIGHT POOL was just approved and added as one of the events. Lots of work between the venue owners and coordinators to make this happen. Thank you Eric!!!!
