Be a part of this exciting international event and meet people from around the world while acting as an ambassador for Fairfax County and the National Capital Region. The 2015 World Police & Fire Games will feature thousands of public safety athletes from nearly 70 countries taking part in 61 sports in 53 area venues. And it will take over 3,000 VOLUNTEERS backing them up to make it all happen.

Volunteer Position Descriptions

 

Games Ambassadors

Be a face of the Games and provide excellent customer service!

Related tasks:

  • Share information with guests about the Games events, visitor information and details of attractions across Fairfax County and the National Capital Region
  • Provide information regarding event times and schedules
  • Provide directional assistance as needed
  • Respond to requests for assistance at venues
  • Provide excellent customer service to athletes and friends and family at Accreditation

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Patience and willingness to answer a wide variety of questions
  • Ability to direct athletes, friends and family where needed
  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • Ability to be physically active for prolonged periods of time, i.e. stand for several hours both indoors and outdoors
  • Good communication skills
  • Additional language skills an added plus

 

Games Village Team

Ensure that athletes and family and friends social experiences are exceptional!

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Patience and willingness to answer a wide variety of questions
  • Ability to direct athletes, friends and family where needed
  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • Ability to be physically active for prolonged periods of time, i.e. stand for several hours
  • Good communication skills
  • Additional language skills an added plus

 

Registration and Accreditation Team

Welcome and register the world at the start of their Games journey!

Related tasks:

  • Provide excellent customer service to athletes, friends and family members at local airport and registration and accreditation venue providing Games details and local information as needed
  • Leadership role, provide overall management of the registration and accreditation operations
  • Provide support and necessary training, briefing and supervision to the team
  • Maintain the overall smooth running of the registration and accreditation operation

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Patience and willingness to answer a wide variety of questions
  • Good people/communication skills
  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • Ability to be physically active for prolonged periods of time, i.e. stand for several hours
  • Good admin skills
  • Additional language skills an added plus

 

Media Team

Be at the center of the media hub while capturing the spirit of the Games!

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Media/communications related qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • A positive attitude to deal with varied demands
  • Excellent photography skills for various tasks

 

Logistics and Transportation Team

Manage the venue deliveries, logistics, equipment and transportation ensuring everyone and everything is on time and at the right place

Related tasks:

  • Leadership roles:
    • manage and ensure the smooth running of the logistics operation for the Games
    • liaison with the Sports Coordinators at each venue to ensure the smooth running of the medals ceremonies
    • manage and coordinate the warehouse team
  • Assist with the set-up/tear down of the ceremony needs and the medal presentations
  • Provide transport for VIPs, staff, federation members and sponsors
  • Provide coordination of Games transportation operation
  • Assist in the receiving, sorting and distribution of Games stock
  • Support the smooth running of the logistics operation for the Games

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Must be able to work as part of a team
  • Event management experience preferred
  • Ability to work in front of potential large numbers of people
  • Experience working with VIPs and dignitaries
  • A valid driver’s license required for certain tasks
  • Knowledge of Fairfax County and the National Capital Region
  • Capable of a good level of physical activity
  • Great people skills/communication skills
  • Ability to be proactive

 

Field of Play and Games Administration

Assist with the delivery of the Games sporting events!

Related tasks:

  • Ensure the Games sports events can take place with the vital set-up and tear down
  • Provide directional information to athletes, friends and family and spectators while providing excellent customer care
  • Coordinating the sports administration at the venue, including results gathering
  • Coordination of the Games results service, including communication with the sports coordinators

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Knowledge of the sport
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to be active for long periods of time
  • Ability to adapt to multiple tasks
  • Great people skills/communication skills
  • Strong IT skills

 

Volunteer Support Team

Ensure the spirit of the Games is supported!

Related tasks:

  • Leadership role, providing essential leadership within the support team to enable the delivery of essential VOLUNTEER support welfare
  • Provide support and act as a liaison to WPFGF and all VOLUNTEER teams

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Previous VOLUNTEER management experience preferred
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude to deal with many demands
  • Excellent people/communication skills

 

Ceremonies and Memorials Team

Be a part of the official welcome and send off for The Fairfax 2015, World Police & Fire Games as you bring together the elements to assist in the running of the celebrations!

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Ability to confidently and professionally interact with athletes, VIPs and guests
  • Customer Service and/or events experience preferred
  • Ability to be physically active for prolonged periods of time, i.e. stand for several hours both indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to deal effectively and politely with potentially challenging situations and perform them professionally
  • Time flexibility to support the delivery of the role
  • Ability to use your own initiative and work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to be a part of a team
